Biography

Alexander David Turner is an English singer, songwriter and guitarist, and the frontman of the rock band Arctic Monkeys. He is known for his lyricism ranging from kitchen sink realism to surrealist wordplay, which has been praised by music critics. All but one of Turner's studio albums have topped the UK Albums Chart. He has won seven Brit Awards, an Ivor Novello Award, and a Mercury Prize among other accolades.

2006 Event

Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not became the fastest-selling debut album in British history. Arctic Monkeys were the first band to reach number one primarily through internet buzz.

2013 Event

AM, the band's fifth album, sold over 3.5 million copies. "Do I Wanna Know?" became their biggest single. Turner's slicked-back hair and leather-jacket persona replaced the shy Sheffield kid.

2018 Event

Released Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, a lounge-pop concept album set on the moon. No singles. No guitars on several tracks. It hit number one in 12 countries.
