Jimmy Donal "Jimbo" Wales is an American internet entrepreneur and former financial trader. He is best known for co-founding Wikipedia, a nonprofit free encyclopedia, and Fandom, a for-profit wiki hosting service. He has also worked on Bomis, Nupedia, WikiTribune, and Trust Café.

Made enough money as an options trader to retire at 30. Started Bomis, a web portal that included adult content. It funded his real ambition.
Launched Wikipedia. Supposed to be a feeder for Nupedia, a peer-reviewed encyclopedia. Within two weeks Wikipedia had more articles. Nupedia was abandoned.
Founded the Wikimedia Foundation as a nonprofit to host Wikipedia. Refused to sell ads. Ran it on donations. By 2023 it had over 60 million articles in 300 languages.
